THE MERLONI SHUTTLE:
“The Merloni Shuttle” was a term that defines the trip between Boston and Pawtucket for minor league players who are optioned from the big league club in Boston to the Red Sox triple A affiliate in Pawtucket. It is named after Merloni because he was most often the player who was shuttled by and forth between Pawtucket and Boston since he had options remaining.
