ACQUIRED: Drafted in the supplemental first round of the 2005 MLB Draft (42nd pick overall). Red Sox obtained the pick as compensation for losing Pedro Martinez to the New York Mets the previous off-season.

PERSONAL INFORMATION
Clay Buchholz was born in Nederland, Texas but raised in Lumberton where he attended and played baseball for Lumberton High School. After graduating high school in 2003, Buchholz went on to attend McNeese State University in Lake Charles,Louisiana. During the winter break at McNeese State, Buchholz and high school friend, Dustin Dodge, broke into a middle school in Lumberton and stole 29 laptop computers from a storage room. A year later Buchholz transferred to Angelina Community College in Lufkin, Texas.
